Clive James Standen (born July 22, 1981) is a British actor. He portrayed Rollo in the History Channel drama series Vikings.

Biography

Standen was born on a British Army base in Holywood, County Down, Northern Ireland. He grew up in Leicestershire, East Midlands, England. He went to school at the King Edward VII School, Melton Mowbray followed by a performing arts course at Melton Mowbray College. Standen then went on to earn a place on the three-year diploma course in Acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. In his late teens he was a former international Muay Thai boxer and later Fencing gold medallist.

When Standen became an actor, he made sure to hone his choreography and fighting skills by gaining an advanced gold certificate inn sword fighting from the British Academy of Stage and Screen Combat.

He is best known for playing Sir Gawain in the Starz series Camelot and for playing Archer in the BBC TV series Robin Hood. He is also known for a previous recurring role as Private Harris in the British sci-fi show Doctor Who.

  • He is left-handed, but learned to fight with his right hand, making him unique ambidextrous.
  • At the age of fifteen, Standen was both a member of the National Youth Theatre and the National Youth Music Theatre, performing lead roles in plays and musicals.
  • He auditioned to play Ragnar before being cast as Rollo.
