Lord Denewulf was a messenger for Bishop Heahmund and a soldier under Aethelwulf's banners. He was killed in the first wave in the battle of Yorktown.

When Ubbe and Hvitserk offered a truce for King Aethelwulf, Denewulf joined Bishop Heahmund and his men in beating the holy hell out of both brothers and chasing and throwing them out of the camp.

During the first attempt to retake York, Lord Denewulf was shot in the eye with an arrow during a series of ambushes by the Heathen Army, shortly before the Anglo-Saxon forces were forced to withdraw.
