Leif Marteinnsson was a Viking warrior who joined Ragnar Lothbrok's war band in the exploration westward. He is the son of Erik Marteinn.

Biography[]

Season 1[]

As a brave warrior and loyal friend of Ragnar Lothbrok, he went on both expeditions to Northumbria. Leif is the first one to swear fealty to Ragnar when he becomes earl. He fights at Ragnar's side valiantly until he is called upon to sacrifice himself at the Temple of Uppsala, lest the gods punish the world of men for their faithlessness. Accepting the honor gladly, Leif gives up his life for the sake of his friends and all the Vikings. He gives his friends one last smile before he is sacrificed. Ragnar and Athelstan shed tears at this.

Like his father, Erik Marteinn, Leif was a veritable giant of a man, among the tallest and largest of his Viking comrades. He has a deep, grunting voice. Leif's beard is notable even amongst his fellow Northmen for its length and girth.

Trivia[]

  • As a trusted companion of Ragnar Lothbrok, Leif held the status of a Skutilsvein (table-man), an officer with an Earl's Hird (warband and household guard).
  • Leif's tattoo depicts Jörmungandr, in a shape similar to the triple moon symbol.
